A study at the Institute for Child Research that followed 2,187 Australian children from antenatal clinics to the age of six found that there was a significant reduction in the risk of childhood asthma if they had been exclusively breastfed for at least four months. The researchers concluded that public health interventions that promote an increased duration of exclusive breastfeeding may help reduce the morbidity and prevalence of childhood asthma.
