Has anybody used arnica for postpartum healing? _________________ "The truth shall set you free, but first it will make you mad."

| I used it, too. I can't say whether or not it helped, but I sure don't think it hurt. I got it at the natural foods store. My (then) midwife recommended it. |

I can say that I have personally used Arnica, not for postpartum healing (although in 6 months or so, I will probably try it.) I work for a veterinarian that uses it for all of our surgical cases.... once every 15 minutes for 2 hours post-surgically, and if we forget, we see a HUGE difference in the amount of bleeding and bruising!
Also, my use of Arnica was for my menstrual period... I have endometriosis and often flood (sorry if TMI). As long as I used the Arnica a few times a day during that, my flooding was non-existent! I would highly recommend it! The evidence from the animals made me try it! |

Wow! That's awesome. I've never used it for animal care or for periods, but I can see how it would help. I have used it for IBS and it can calm down a flare up.
I used it postpartum with several of my kids and had a huge reduction in bleeding. I mostly use it for bumps and bruises on my rambunctious little boys. _________________ "The truth shall set you free, but first it will make you mad."

When you say it reduced your bleeding, do you mean it reduced the sort of external trauma-bleeding for tears/episiotomy, or actual lochia bleeding? If it reduces lochia, how do you apply it- internally? It seemed like the lochia think went on for-EVER for me, so I'd love a safe way to shorten that!

| Oops, sorry, I messed up the quoting thing. The first line is a quote from Alison's last post, the rest is my question. |

You can get it in little round pills that melt under your tongue... get 30 c strength. _________________ Child of God my king, wife of a wonderful husband, and mother of 4!

Yeah, I took the pellets under my tongue. I had a 30 c strength and I took it every 4 hours the first two or three days and then 4 times a day until it was gone.
Lochia continued for about 5 weeks with my first. All the rest of been in the 2-3 week range. This last time, I followed the principles of "lying-in" and felt much stronger and had less bleeding very quickly. It helps that I've got older children (15 and 12) who can run the household while I lie in bed. _________________ "The truth shall set you free, but first it will make you mad."

*LOVE* After Ease! A lot! In fact, I have the company who makes my clients birth kits include it in the kits for anyone having their 2nd or more babies. That stuff was rockin' awesome. _________________ "The truth shall set you free, but first it will make you mad."

So, just to clarify, is the Arnica that you guys have taken a homeopathic version? It sounds like it if you took it under your tongue. I just used Arnica gel externally postpartum with my daughter. Anyway, that can probably be purchased at any natural foods store? And After Ease, what does that do exactly and where can it be purchased?
I'm probably starting on black and blue cohoshes tomorrow, at 39 weeks. My midwife had me start evening primrose a couple weeks ago, and said I could start the cohoshes at 39 weeks. (Sorry if I already mentioned that in a previous post...can't remember.)
I've been having lots of Braxton-Hicks contractions...hoping they really kick into high gear soon!
Oh, that's right, I did talk about all of this in a thread I started on natural induction. Talk about pregnancy brain... |

That's alright!
I get arnica in a homeopathic form, 30c, little round capsuls. I start taking them while I'm in labor... and go through about 3 or 4 containers in the first 2 weeks postpartum. It usually cost about 5 bucks. I find sometimes that the internal form comes free in the package with the external gel. _________________ Child of God my king, wife of a wonderful husband, and mother of 4!

Yeah, this is arnica 30C taken under the tongue.
After Ease is an herbal blend that reduces the amount of postpartum pain from cramps without slowing the involution of the uterus or increasing bleeding. It should be taken as soon after the baby is born as is humanly possible to get the best effect. _________________ "The truth shall set you free, but first it will make you mad."

I "like" this too. If I have another baby I want to try this. _________________ Child of God my king, wife of a wonderful husband, and mother of 4!

That is super! I used to have IBS and wish I would have known about arnica then. I am hoping it does not return, as I understand it can after pregnancy.
I will definitely have to pick up some arnica and pack it in my bag (later on! LOL... we're 6 months out right now) |
